Interesting reading your reply Fred. I had just calculated the intake numbers for Sept. 1954 when I saw your reply. I was a 54/23 Intake 155 "A" Coy. Same instructors as yourself - Wintle, Barber and Field. I was one of the first names Barber got hold of on Day 1 and he made life hell for me for about a week before some other poor sod caught out. We also had a right so and so in L/Cpl Galloway. I contacted him through Forces Re-united a few months ago. Funnily enough he never bothered to reply. Maybe he didn't like my message !
CPOs and RPOs were done away with during one of the Defence Reviews (although not as a direct result), probably in the mid-1990s when the Army Personnel Centre (APC) was formed in Glasgow.

Remember you well Murray, I seem to remeber you were a trainee tea taster or something like that in civvy life, I remember John Hewson (big drinker) Adrian Barker, Dennis George (tthe post man), Mick Wade, Jim Saunders,, thingy Farrelly and many others plus of couurse those you mention. regards Dave Johnson
